The OCEAMMUR Project proposal aims to create a joint public-private consortium to develop a coastal operational modelling program for the Region of Murcia.
By leveraging extensive expertise in numerical modelling and environmental monitoring, the consortium will co-develop high-quality, robust coastal operational forecasting products.
These products will increase Copernicus Marine model resolution, enabling more detailed and accurate simulations of local hydrodynamic conditions in the region.
OCEAMMUR also aims at using Copernicus Marine products to support decision-making in public policies, promote sustainable practices, and enhance the understanding of hydrodynamic and thermohaline interactions between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea.
Additionally, the developed tool will support the effective implementation of European Directives, with a particular focus on aquaculture, fisheries policies (Common fisheries policy CFP), and the sustainable management of the Mar Menor coastal lagoon.
The tool will also be of great value for the application and management of Natura 2000 network Protected Areas—especially the Mar Menor Lagoon—and for managing Coastal and Transitional Waters Masses according to the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and the Water Framework Directive.

CONSORTIUM
The project consortium is a public-private partnership with expertise in operational procedures, numerical modelling, environmental monitoring, data visualization, and the application of environmental directives. It is part of the Copernicus Marine National Collaboration Programme – USER – Coastal Services Development and Capacity Building.
It is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), focusing on gender equality, fair pay, training, work-life balance, and environmental sustainability. The consortium aims to reduce its carbon footprint by minimizing travel, promoting virtual meetings, and supporting local products.
